Another Record Breaking Year for Mommy and Me/Daddy and Me!

Mommy and Me/Daddy and Me 2010 welcomed 78 participants, including twenty families from fourteen parishes. This year’s program was planned by Co-Directors Kira Senedak and Denise Spoganetz, under the guidance of Spiritual Advisor V. Rev. Taras Naumenko. The program focused on preparing the participants to be “Ready to Follow” Christ’s command to “Go Forth, Make disciples of all the nations.”

Families arrived Monday afternoon and began the week with evening prayers and dinner, followed by craft time. Despite warnings of high heat and humidity for Tuesday morning, everyone participated in the annual Prayer Trail walk and all were pleasantly greeted by comfortable temperatures and shade. On Wednesday and Thursday mornings the children had class and craft time which focused on the theme of “Ready to Follow.” The children decorated bags and filled them with things to help them become good followers of Christ. Their kits included a prayer rope, container to collect money for those in need and bird houses to care for nature. After learning how deacons in the early church helped the disciples care for those who were sick or shut in, the children made icon cards and greeting cards to send to others who are in need of a kind word. Parents participated in question and answer sessions with V. Rev. Fr. Taras Naumenko and Rev. Fr. Anthony Perkins.

Participants enjoyed free time in the afternoons at the pool, in the cabins and on the playground. In the evenings there was time for family crafts, Ukrainian and Greek dance lessons, singing, and two campfires. On Wednesday, parents enjoyed the annual favorite, “Parents’ Night Out,” at the pool.

Mommy and Me/Daddy and Me was blessed to have a visit from two of our hierarchs, His Eminence Archbishop Antony and His Grace Bishop Daniel. They spoke about the growth of the encampment and encouraged the parents to be mindful of Proverbs 22:6 “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.”

Dates for MMDM 2011 are August 1-5, 2011.

We look forward to the continued growth and success of this encampment!
