With the blessing of His Eminence Metropolitan Antony, Archbishop Daniel, the spiritual father of the Western Eparchy of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA, embarked on a journey across the country to extend his support and solidarity to the Protection of the Birth-Giver of God Ukrainian Orthodox parish in Spring Valley, California. The parish, nestled in the serene landscape of San Diego, was grappling with the aftermath of a devastating natural disaster - flooding that wreaked havoc on its property.

The archbishop’s visit was not merely a formality; it was a profound gesture of compassion and care for a community in distress. As he arrived at the parish, the hierarch witnessed firsthand the extent of the damage caused by the flooding. The church, parish hall, and rectory bore the scars of nature’s fury, with water invading sacred spaces and leaving behind a trail of destruction.

However, amidst the rubble and chaos (over 50 tons of mud removed), there was a glimmer of hope - the unwavering spirit of resilience and faith that permeated the hearts of the parishioners. Archbishop Daniel recognized this resilience and stood in solidarity with the community, offering his unwavering support and guidance during this trying time.

During his visit, Vladyka Daniel engaged with the parish board of administration, led by the steadfast leadership of Subdeacon Gary Gebet under the spiritual care of Very Rev. Fr. Myron Mykhayluk. Together, they assessed the damages and discussed strategies for rebuilding and restoration. The archbishop’s presence brought comfort and reassurance to the parishioners, reminding them that they were not alone in their struggle.

Accompanying the hierarch were the clergy of Los Angeles Metropolitan area, including the Dean of the Western Deanery, Very Rev. Fr. Vasile Sauciur (pastor of St. Vladimir UOC pro-cathedral) and Rev. Fr. Myroslav Mykytyuk – pastor of St. Andrew UOC in Los Angeles, California. One of the poignant moments of Archbishop Daniel’s visit was the presentation of the insignias of the Guardians of Metropolia to Subdeacon Gary and Natalie Gebet. This honor served as a testament to their unwavering dedication and service to the church, even in the face of adversity.

Furthermore, Vladyka Daniel, on behalf of the UOC of the USA and with the blessing of Metropolitan Antony, presented the parish with a generous donation of $10,000 on behalf of the Consistory of the Church.
